Lecture: Fairfield’s Constitution Connection
Time: 7:00 pm
Location: Fairfield Museum & History Center
Description: It's Constitution Day!
Discover what the Connecticut delegates to the Constitutional Convention of 1787 expected to gain from a new constitution - for the nation and for Connecticut, with historian and author Christopher Collier. What were the local political currents influencing the work of Roger Sherman, William Samuel Johnson, and Oliver Ellsworth? Forty delegates to Connecticut's ratifying convention voted against ratification. Were there local connections between Thaddeus Burr and Jonathan Sturges that impelled them toward federalism?
The lecture will be followed by a question and answer period. Books written by Mr. Collier will be available for sale and signing.
Christopher Collier was the official Connecticut State Historian (1984-2004) and is now professor of history emeritus at the University of Connecticut.
Fee: Free for museum members; $5 for non-members. Please pre-register by calling the museum at 203-259-1598.
